When Robin and Amber decided to start this family-run business, it was important for them to consider how to make sure the work of AWP University would be accessible to other small businesses and individual practitioners. This is why we created a vendor-neutral hub for AWP training. In collaboration with Dr. Ted Blackmon, the founder of Construct-X and Jovian Ventures, we decided that it would be in the industry’s best interest to share the wealth of resources in the Construct-X library through an inclusive curriculum.
This means that AWP University students won’t need to spend time and money on vendor-specific AWP trainings over and over again. Our industry often requires practitioners to enroll in AWP courses that are limited to a specific technology focus, and then re-enroll every time a new project calls for a different technology. While larger corporations and businesses might be able to afford repeat trainings like this, we are aware that small business owners and individual practitioners bear an excessive burden from these re-trainings. And even at bigger companies, the time commitment and redundancy are wearying.
AWP University established an intellectual property (IP) licensing deal with Construct-X that allows us to draw from Construct-X’s robust AWP training history and offer a comprehensive curriculum that will satisfy requirements across the industry.
Building on that agreement, we’re working toward our vision by seeking the involvement of vendors and consultants. By getting vendors on board and partnering with consultancy organizations in AWP, we can ensure that our students won’t need to get multiple trainings while we move toward universal AWP training in the industry.
